The Ascension (2018) consists pf two photographs which were made as discreet artworks. Both photographs were taken in India . Many years ago on a trip to India i purchased these traditional slippers from a slipper maker in Rajasthan. I never wore them when I returned to Australia. In 2017 I covered the soles of the slippers with gold leaf from Australia. Wearing the slippers I walked the streets in India. This performative gesture enacts ideas that i will deposit gold from the Australian . goldfields, where i now reside, back in India. Simultaneous in this simple act of walking, the soles of my slipper will collect the detritus from India which i will bring back to Australia. This notion of exchange through loss and gain goes to the heart of my continuing investigation into migration.
