The Ascension consists pf two photographs which were made as discreet artworks. Both photographs were taken in India . Many years ago on a trip to India i purchased these traditional slippers from a slipper maker in Rajasthan. I never wore them when I returned to Australia. Recently I covered the soles of the slippers with gold leaf from Australia. I took the slipper back to India and walked the street wearing the them. This gesture enacts the ideas that i will deposit gold from the Australian . goldfields, where i now reside, back in India. Simultaneous in this simple act of walking, the soles of my slipper will collect the detritus from India which i will bring back to Australia. This notion of exchange through loss and gain goes to the heart of my continuing investigation of the paradoxes of migration.
